Artist Spotlight: Brittany Bloom

In this interview with Brittany Bloom, the singer-songwriter discusses the inspiration behind her single “You,” her upcoming EP, performing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and more.

How did you get the name Brittany Bloom?
Brittany is my real first name, but I came up with "Bloom" because I felt like it represented me best. I feel like in my journey I'm always blooming. I'm continuously growing in my career and my life. I'm fiercely blooming, but yet still a delicate flower! Lol!

What was your inspiration for your song "You"?
The inspiration came from my travels to the Caribbean Islands frequently for the last few years. I do shows on Cruise Ships and get to have a mini vacay in the Islands. The music that I hear when I'm there always puts me in a great mood. The song talks about being infatuated with someone while giving island vibes. It's a perfect match to me. Just a feel good "summer" song.

Who in the music industry - past and present  - are your greatest influences?
Oh wow, I have a long list of these! Let's see... my greatest influences are Brandy, Erykah Badu, Solange, Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, Fantasia, Rihanna, Beyonce & Diddy. Although this list goes on.

Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you first realized you wanted to pursue music professionally?
Yes! In 2012 I got the opportunity to live in Japan for about 6 months and sing at a local club 6 nights a week. This was my first time out of the country, and my first time performing so much regularly. I learn so much from that gig. It was really tough, but I knew then that this is what I wanted to do forever. There was no feeling like being onstage. Every since then, I have been a full-time professional international singer.

What's the coolest place you've ever performed?
So far, the coolest place would have to be Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The stage was right on the beach, a huge band, and the production was great. I really enjoyed the scenery, the energy onstage and, the energy from the crowd.

If you could work with any artist dead or alive, who would it be?
I would love to work with Solange! She's such a greatly talented and creative person. She also seems like she would be down to earth and easy to talk to.

What's next for Brittany Bloom?
Lots of things are down the pipeline. The EP is definitely up next with another single to usher it in. I look forward to doing more shows in more cities and just to keep bringing the world my point of view in music, fashion, and film!
