In this exclusive interview with T'melle, the singer-songwriter discusses the inspiration behind her single “Cross The Line,” working with Kevin Gates, and more.
1). How did you get the name T'melle?
My father made my name up because he felt as though I was going to special so I needed a unique name.
2). Who in the music industry - past and present - are your greatest influences?
I'm mostly influenced by older music. Music was just so pure and honest in my option back then. Artists Like Barbra Streisand, Chaka Kane, Minnie Riperton, Faith Evans, I mean I can go on for days real talk! lol!!!
3). What was your inspiration for your song "Cross the Line " and what was it like working with Kevin Gates on this record?
It was a VIBE and wasn't planed! Thats the best type of session. Kevin and I was talking about relationships and how people don't
talk about the feistiness in a relationship and the love and hate that u feel towards each other at times. You know what they say it's a thin line between love and hate. So it was just truthful and working with Gates was just that! We both represent empowerment and overcoming bad situations in life and we just express it through our music. So it was a dope calibration.
4). Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you first realized you wanted to pursue music professionally?
Growing up in Philly I was singing before I could talk and plus my father sung and played every instrument. I even got detention, spanked and on punishing for saying I wanting to be a singer in a Christian private school! Guess I was always hardheaded! Smh... That's why i say music chose me I didn't chose it. It was just something I new I had to do.
5). What's the coolest place you've ever performed?
6). If you could work with any artist dead or alive, who would it be?
Defineitely Left eye, she was a genius!
7). What's next for T'melle?
Really skies is the limit. Dropping a EP entitled DEDICATED Later this year. New single releasing this spring "Loving You" Going back on tour, just excited for whats to come So keep your eyes on this one!
